Website online!

Huzzah, I finally have a real website! Not all of the sections are done, but the “big” stuff has been written and added. The main intention is to have a nice rèsumè item for future job seeking, but a tool to bring more traffic here is a nice added benefit.

The site is very “low-glitz”, and currently is waiting on a better name than “Blah’s Personal Website”, and perhaps a domain name.

The final version of my Metaballs article is also on the site, and took an Age and a half to get formatted nicely. You can read that here.

    Looks pretty good. I like a more minimalist style; people are there to read the info not look at a pretty page.

    Only suggestion I’d make would be to see if it looks better if you reverse the blue shading on the main page so that the text boxes are light blue and the background a darker blue. Text is generally more readable if there’s a higher contrast between the intensities of the colour, and at the moment you’re drawing too much attention to the white space around your text by making it lighter. To me it’s a lot easier to read your menu bar on the left than the main text on the page.

    Looks nice ^^

    I was(did) going to make my own site once but thought wordpress fullfilled all my needs.

    Wow, looks great! Very clean and professional.

    Did you pick up some PHP/MySQL too, or add those news posts manually?

    @Trapper: Agh, I’m really adamant about having a nice white background. I do agree about the lack of contrasts, so I’ll see what I can do. 🙂

    @David/diablo: Thanks!

    @TVM: Unfortunately HTML and CSS were the scope of this learning exercise. I really want to jump into some PHP/MySQL though, and add some neat things like download counters and some dynamic content. Thanks!

    Well, it’s not a serious problem. It’s still readable, and thus isn’t a slappable offense like using dark grey on black or light grey on white in a misplaced desire to look trendy.
